Nature 2000 Network

Fauna and Flora of La Cañada (Ávila)

Network of biodiversity conservation areas in the European Union, designated in accordance with the Habitat Directive.

The Habitat Directive 92/43/CEE obliges all the Member States of the European Union to deliver a National List of places (pLIC), which becomes a List of Places of Community Importance (LIC) and later in Zones of Special Conservation (ZEC). These SACs, together with the Special Protection Areas for Birds (ZEPA), make up the Natura 2000 Network.

La Cañada has 89% of its term belonging to the Natura 2000 Network, ES4110114 due to the biodiversity of its fauna (vertebrate and invertebrate) and flora (18 are vascular and 3 mosses) that it presents.

May 21 is the European Day of the Natura 2000 Network. That day, de  1992, the Habitats Directive was approved, the great European standard that, together with the Birds Directive, has allowed the protection of the spaces that make up the Nature Network 2000.

Flora and micro-flora of La CaÑada

In La Cañada we have a more than abundant flora and  micro-flora. It seems as if a great variety of botanical species had agreed to live in our town. It is a flora proprietary to both the Mediterranean biome and the Euro-Siberian area and above all the Iberian area of Alta_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cfal58d_pina_mountain.
